Varies: Fractures heal faster in younger individuals than older ones, also nutritional status may play a role in healing, smoking and drinking alcohol may prolong time of healing, normally six weeks in a cast may be needed for the radius fracture to heal.

Wrist: Supination causes stress on the radius and thereby causes pain.  This limits supination and makes it more difficult.

Fracture: It all depends upon the severity of the fracture and if there's any displacement. A fiberglass cast or potentially a splint will be sufficient treatment. It should be healed within 3 to 4 weeks at which time therapy can begin. You might be converted from a splint into a brace for additional protection at some point along the way. Be sure you are evaluated by a physician. Best of luck!

Wrist fracture pain: It is very unlikely that pulling or traction would cause comminution. Pain more likely from soft tissue stretching, including muscles, tendons and even nerves. If doesn't begin to improve or if you have numbness and tingling you should notify physician

Fracture: The bottom line with fracture management is function and pain issues with some cosmetic concerns as well.  If none of those are a problem then you should be fine. It is hard to say without knowledge of the actual fracture.

Possibly: Searching for the reason for the non-union is not as productive as identifying the solution.Delayed union is nomally defined as three months without x-ray evidence of healing. Non union 6 months-so you need a solution-usually repeat surgery with bone graft.

how long should i expect to be out of work? i went to the er sun and was told that both my wrists are broken 1 with radical styloid fractured potentially scaphoid fracture, the otherdistal radius fracture. i work in customer service field on the computer

For : For either one of these injuries alone, you could be expected to do computer work within a week or so, though a bit slower than your usual pace.  However, with both wrists broken, it becomes much more difficult.  Basic hygeine and eating can be difficult if both wrists are in casts.

A radial styloid fracture, in and of itself, is not usually problematic and heals in about 6 weeks.  However, it can be a marker for a more severe injury to the scapolunate ligament--part of the cornerstone of the wrist.  You need to see a hand surgeon to determine if there is significant ligament instability.  Sometimes the portion of the fracture that goes through the joint shifts and needs to be fixed surgically.  Either of these situation would prolong the healing time.  If there is indeed a scaphoid fracture, that wrist could be limited much longer, sometimes up to a year.

The distal radius fracture depends on the fracture pattern.  Most of these do not involve the joint, but can tip backwards and distort wrist mechanics.  If it displaces, it may require surgery.  Unfortunately, these can move at 2-3 weeks after injury.

In short, your recovery time depends on the "personality" of the fractures and any associated injuries.  If all goes especially well, you might be out of casts by 6 weeks, but there are a lot of other factors.

Radius fracture: Even nondisplaced radius fractures are getting better we can benefit from splinting and restricting activities and in time knowing what to expect is a good thing there are also some fractures that may feel better but actually have articular involvement that need to be addressed even though it feels better than it did so Xray

wrist pain/swelling and constant need to "crack/pop" wrist after intraarticular distal radius fracture a year ago.  fracture healed; what can it be?

Have it reevaluated: If you have persistent pain and swelling, have your orthopedist reevaluate the wrist.
