Hello. : Hello. Although hives is not one of the typical symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, anxiety certainly is. Hives can be caused by anxiety.  If you are alcoholic, i don't recommend detoxifying yourself without medical supervision.  You can become quite ill while detoxifying. Most people detoxify in an inpatient setting but some doctors are will to do outpatient detoxification protocols.  Your body is going through tremendous changes right now. Recommend that you be medically evaluated for your hives and for withdrawal symptoms.

Be honest: Be honest and compassionate, yet provide fact based examples of how their drinking is affecting them and you, let them know you love them, yet you may have to make boundries that will no longer support their current behavior, esp if it affects you negatively. It maybe helpful to let them know there is help for there illness and you are wiling to support them in getting help.

Mutual support helps: Treatment helps, and starting with mutual support may provide a strong foundation for recovery.  Consider attending a meeting of alcoholics anonymous.

Many: Alcohol abuse is associated with liver, mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach cancers. It is likely one of the most significant cancer risk factors, second only to tobacco. There are many: Ways to treat alcoholism. Smart recovery, which uses rational behavioral therapy, is becoming more widely available (www.Smartrecovery.Org) as is lifering secular recovery (www.Lifering.Org). Neither of these are spiritually/religiously based. Formal treatment programs use cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt), motivational enhancement and other psychotherapies. Women for sobriety is also available.

Relatively low: But they are there.  Be careful with ethanol and narcotics.  It is a very difficult task to stop if you carry the gene.

He : He does have a problem. His body has developed tolerance to alcohol. Over time, it has taken more alcohol to have the same impact, which is why he is now drinking more. My guess is that he spends a lot of time drinking, getting drinks or sleeping it off. Alcohol is the number one reason for isomnia in this country. Kind of ironic, since so many people use if to fall asleep.  What i recommend is that you look into a group called "alanon", it is for people who have loved ones that are alcholic. It will provide you with support, knowledge and improved coping skills.  You can find it in the yellow pages. Take care.

Another : Another option, beside medications is medical acupuncture. There is a very simple  ear protocol for addictions called the nada protocol. It is safe and can be quite effective.

NO: If you take Coreg for heart failure  whatever reason..., Adderall is a stimulant and can increase heart rate and blood pressure . It is opposite effect of Coreg. ( it would offset its benefits and possibly cause harm) . Consult your MD before taking any medications - especially if " left overs". Try best in healthy nutrition , low salt, moderate exercise. Continue attend AA.

Maybe/not: You will find that alcohol &amp; Zoloft often do not get along when used together. Both enter the brain &amp; have an effect on your nervous system. You can at least expect an amplification of the alcohols effect on you which may or may not be troublesome. You can try it with caution but be aware you may have an unhappy reaction. Be sure to have a chaperone during any trial if you go off the deep end.
