what's the outlook for a 16  yr old girl with 2 collapsed lungs, now has assisted breathing via machine?

Depends on cause: Lungs can be re-inflated & assisted ventilation can be withdrawn with recovery. The underlying cause of the incident is more important. Car crash: other injuries, brain trauma, period with poor oxygen to organs & brain. Asthma, cystic fibrosis, other lung disease. The human system can come back from major injuries as long as pre-injury health was good. Sickly people do worse.

What's the cause: It all depends on the cause of the collapse. The chances of it happening again depend on whether whatever caused your lung to collapse is likely to happen again. I know you didn't want to hear this but you definitely need to see your doc for this. It all depends on your medical history and what caused it.

Two – four weeks.: Likely that the pain will be much better within the next two weeks and that the fatigue should improve significantly over the course of a month. It takes a long time to recover from these serious infections.

Pneumothorax: Typically tall lean get that. You should get a cxr, chest x ray to make sure.

Could get worse: A simple collapsed lung, also known as a pneumothorax, can turn into a life-threatening condition called a tension pneumothorax. This can be a sudden event that rapidly progresses to death.

Hurts to breathe: I suspect it still hurts to breathe? If so, that would be a factor. You had major surgery with general anesthetic. It takes time to recover from that. But you ought to have a followup chest xray to be sure there's no recurrence of the collapse - if for no other reason to reassure you!

Varies...: Most commonly it is from either trauma that can result in increased pressures in the chest or rib fractures that tear the lung.  The other common source is bleb or bullous disease of the lung.  Imagine an overinflated balloon ready to pop.  Something causes it to have increased pressure and air then leaks out to cause the lung to collapse.  Other reasons can include cancer and bad emphysema.
