i have been having some minor symptoms of tss and no fever. my bowels are a very light brown, and my urination  is frequent. should i be concerned?

You are concerned: Or you would not have asked the question.  Need more information to answer this.  Assume you mean toxic shock syndrome?  The color of your stool unless completely white is of no concern.  Frequency of urination will depend on multiple factors.  See a doctor and get this worked out.

Fever: you need to be evaluated by a physician with particular emphasis on your temperature and blood pressure. Widening of pulse pressure is one of the early indicators of shock

Doubt it: Shock is a condition where your blood flow is inadequate to provide your organs/body with its basic needs. It is most often accompanied by low blood pressure and physical prostration. TSS includes these symptoms. You likely have a simple stomach bug.Common things commonly happen.

can you get toxic shock syndrome from the plastic from a tampon being left in your vagina? i have had a fever and chills, then extreme periods of sweating along with a lump behing my ear and one that is getting pretty big on my neck below it.  these lumps

Toxic : Toxic shock syndrome was felt to be secondary to extremely-absorbable tampons, which became associated with staph and strep infections.  Toxic shock syndrome has symptoms of high fever, rash, and often vomiting or diarrhea.  If a patient had high fever, vomiting, and rash, then they should consult with their physician.  The reasons for swelling behind the ears and in the neck may be a different cause of infection.

Also, two hours is usually not long enough to be a problem so it is probably not TSS. But it may be a flu or some other thing that's still not pleasant. If things get better - you're okay. If worse, go to a clinic or ER.

Dont think so.: I'm sure there are some sporadic cases but a heightened awareness for the infection especially in the primary care arena  has pretty much kept that under control in recent years.

Toxic shock syndrome: This is most commonly caused by toxins from Staph aureus absorbed from the vaginal barrel when wearing tampons, but since the composition of these has changed this has become very rare. It may also be due to toxins from this organism or from Streptococcus pyogenes and the treatment is eradication of the primary infection. Be more specific in your question.

Toxic shock: TSS or 'Toxic shock syndrome' is caused by bacteria that have a certain toxin. Often it is either Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Strep) or Staphylococcus aureus. If your mom was afflicted by this, I would want to know more about the circumstances of her illness. For the most part, I would not be worried about you catching it. But it's good to talk to an ID doc or someone who would know.

Basic hygiene: Mostly the risk was with the old super-absorbent tampons that are no longer in use. Do practice basic personal hygiene as a favor to yourself.

Ok to use: If used properly you are fine to use tampons if diabetic. You are not at increased risk for TSS
