Dont think so.: I'm sure there are some sporadic cases but a heightened awareness for the infection especially in the primary care arena has pretty much kept that under control in recent years.

Not an enterotoxin: Tss is caused by the production of a toxin produced by some staph aureus or group a streptococci that functions as a super antigen causing prominent activation of the immune response resulting in what is called cytokine storm.

I accidentally have 2 tampons in me. I have managed to get the first one out, now how to i get the other one out? Will i get tss?

Reach inside : There really is no place it can go. It cannot be "lost" inside. Gently reach inside with your fingers. It won't be difficult or painful. If you cannot remove it yourself, see your physician right away. There is a risk of tss with a retained tampon.
A 37-year-old member asked:

Treatment for tss please help if you know!?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Martin Raff
Infectious Disease 56 years experience
Toxic shock syndrome: This is most commonly caused by toxins from Staph aureus absorbed from the vaginal barrel when wearing tampons, but since the composition of these has changed this has become very rare. It may also be due to toxins from this organism or from Streptococcus pyogenes and the treatment is eradication of the primary infection. Be more specific in your question.
