It depends.: An ankle fracture that heals in perfect alignment usually leaves little or no impairment. Some individuals may be left with post-traumatic arthritis of the ankle joint, continued pain, or a tendency for recurrent ankle sprains. Fractures of the weight-bearing portion of the tibia have a more guarded prognosis, since any change in the anatomic position of the fracture fragments is likely to result in long-term post-traumatic arthritis.

Nickel allergy?: If you have a history of contact allergy to nickel which often causes a rash where jewelry touches your skin, you may have a similar kind of reaction to metal containing implants such as the screws and plates used for internal fixation of fractures.  A patch test for nickel and/ or cobalt allergy can be done to help confirm this possibility.

Ankle fracture : Physical therapy will help with pain mitigation, improved range of motion, strengthening and proprioception improvement. All of this leads to improved pain and function. Also should help prevent repeat injury.

Many variables: Results from ankle fracture management depend on the surgeon's ability to obtain "perfect" alignment as very subtle discrepancies can have profound affects on ankle mechanics.  Cartilage damage which may have occurred at the time of injury can predispose the joint to arthritis despite optimal surgical treatment.  All trimalleolar fractures areen't "equal" so it's difficult to make predictions.

Internal fixation: A trimalleolar fracture involves the medial and lateral malleoli and the third is the posterior aspect of the tibia.  Usually the fractures are reduced and stabilized with screws and maybe a plate along the fibula followed with a cast and crutches.

It depend: On the fracture and the nature of the brake and if you have complications or not.
Assuming the fracture is simple in nature, I do believe you have no problem walking after 6 month without a limp.

Signs for healing: On xray the fracture site will appear healed in 3 different views... meaning new bone growth is seen overlying the fracture site... and yes no gaps present!

: Listen to your surgeon. They will know the best recommendation for you. You are very young with a lot of use  you want this to be perfect. You had a major injury followed with surgery. Unless you have extenuating circumstances that require a different consideration follow your surgeon’s recommendation. You can always get a second opinion with history and X-rays
