High TG: I know the labs have their ranges of normal and triglyceride levels can fluctuate a lot and exceed the lab’s normal. The panic number for triglycerides is usually 500 when it can irritate your pancreas which is not good. A very close look at your fat intake, reduce fried, high fat beef/pork and dairy and then recheck a fasting TG will usually bring it down. If not, you’ll need to visit with PCP.

: This lipid profile is excellent! There is nothing to worry about and in large population studies with total cholesterol lower than 150, heart disease is almost non existent. If your LDL cholesterol is low, there is not much need to have a high HDL cholesterol either. In very simple terms, think about HDL as a vehicle to remove/counteract LDL.

Q: alt is 63, ast normal range. i am obese, high triglycerides, bad eating, and pretty sedentary. diet and exercise to get levels down? any supplements you would recommend in addition? i hear the liver is resilient, responds well to lifestyle changes.

NAFLD: This picture can be associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. You may need statin drugs added to your regimine.

BUN/CREATININE RATIO: Is slightly elevated but the rest of the results are normal.

Likely not: Cholesterol meds do not "cure" a problem, but rather help to manage it.  Hence, the effect of the meds will go away when the medicine is stopped.  Lifelong exercise, good nutrition and often medicine will be necessary.  How high the numbers were and how low they went with treatment can help guide your md to adjust dosing if necessary.

Ideas vary: Since you're also hypertensive and on a statin, you may want to visit with your physician about treating this. From my reading, the final verdict isn't in. Some folks will treat the elevated lab value with niacin, but whether this is wise while you're getting a statin is a question for someone focused on managing atherosclerosis risk.

This combo a concern: High triglycerides are a very common cause of low HDL cholesterol and in many cases low or normal LDL cholesterol. This condition is often seen in patients with obesity, pre-diabetes or diabetes (insulin resistance) , and in combination with other cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension. (metabolic syndrome). We treat tg's if >500, but if <500, then target first the ldl, then non-hdl chol.
