Navicular is a bone: In the midfoot, if it is prominent it sticks out a bit. Treatment may include smart shoe selection so there is no rubbing, padding the area, or shaving the prominence in the operating room. (The latter done by the doctor, not by you of course)

A small bone=rest: Accessory bones in the feet are actually quite tiny.  Though small, they can be stressed, fractured and bruised.  Most of the time, an injury to any of such bones does not require surgery, but rest and immobilization to allow for healing. If this does not prove successful surgery becomes an option.

Subchondral : ankle navicular fracture is confusing. Ankle and navicular are two seperate areas. Either way if you have such a fracture treatment will require non weight bearing cast for 4-6weeks and X-ray exams during that period for evaluation of bone healing.

Rest it to heal: You want this stress fracture to heal, so you'll want to take it easy. We say RICE Which stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Bones can take 4-8 weeks to heal. If you don't give it rest and time, you could end up with chronic for pain from a bone that was never allowed to heal. Be very mindful about the needs of your body. Good luck.

Pro vs con: Surgery: pro - addresses pathology directly, possibly shorter recovery (study supported), decrease chances of re-fracture. Con- risks include same risks for all surgeries.  No surgery:  pro - no surgery, incision, of possible surgical complications, or recovery period from surgery, cheaper.  Con- may not heal fracture on timely manner, may need surgery anyways and you just wasted 3 months in cast.

See below: Conservative care consists of orthotics and possible cortisone injection for pain and inflammation.
Surgery would only be done if pain becomes chronic or there is difficulty wearing shoes.  During the surgery the extra bone is removed and at times the tendons around the bone have to be anchored to the remaining bone.
