Get Right Diagnosis: Not all rectal bleeding is hemorrhoids!  most hemorrhoids (varicose veins of the anus) are soft, squishy tissue that may become more distended or protrude after straining or having a bowel movement.  If torn with a bm or anal sex, they can bleed.  But so can ulcerative colitis, crohns, benign tumors (polyps), or even cancer!  you need to see a GI doc or colorectal surgeon for the right diagnosis.

Time works but...: Depends on what you have already tried.  The first things are conservative including infcreasing fluid and fiber in diet to ensure that you bms are soft, losing weight, limiting the time sitting on the toilet.  Flare ups are then treated with creams, ointments.  If still a problem you could try banding and finally excision/ligatiom.  Surgery is really the only definitive treatment for this.

Are you sure it is: from the hemorrhoids? GI bleeding from other causes tends to be very foul smelling. How much blood are you passing? I would suggest you see your primary doctor for evaluation. If the bleeding is a lot, go to your local ER. You may need a colonoscopy as part of your evaluation.

Hemorrhoids: There are several treatment options for hemorrhoids. You can use topical medications to help shrink them down. You can try rubber bands, sclerotherapy, or infrared coagulation. A hemorrhoidopexy can staple the hemorrhoids on the inside and make them go away. Usually surgical excision is reserved for extreme cases. Best to see a surgeon for further evaluation.
