Immobilize: Ouch! Try a knee immobilizer to stabilize your knee and use crutches. Elevate your leg and apply wrapped cold packs. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen every 6 hours may also help. If you feel the pain or swelling is getting worse or if there is any numbness or color change of your lower leg make a trip to the ER to be seen sooner. Avoid weight bearing.

Blood clot?: Probably should go to ER to get checked with Doppler ultrasound for possible DVT

Not really: The actual meniscus tear does not cause foot swelling. The meniscus tear can cause fluid within the knee joint, which tends to inhibit your quad muscles in a way that makes you limp. The limping is what causes pain in the calves and inner thigh along the hamstrings. Limping around a lot is much more likely to cause the swelling in the foot than the actual meniscus tear.

Meniscus tear: Obviously a meniscus tear is not a life-threatening condition, so one option is to observe. After 15 months of persistent pain/swelling, things are unlikely to improve, especially if there is locking/ catching of the knee. Other non-operative options include bracing, physical therapy, injections, and activity modification. These may not provide long term benefit, but could be tried before surgery

Ankle foot: Swelling after meniscus injury is common because the knee injury is a site of fluid congestion while healing. That congestion can cause fluids to back up in the foot and ankle as a result. Be careful of inactivity while recuperating from your injury because a blood clot known as DVT can form and really slow the circulation and cause complications. Ask your doctor who is managing you knee to check.

should the swelling be gone? i had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 weeks ago, and my knee is still swollen at times. is that something i should be concerned about?

It : It will usually take a few weeks for the swelling to subside.  If you have some arthritis as well as a meniscus tear it can take longer for the fluid in your knee to be absorbed.  At two weeks post-operation i would not be too worried about having an occasionally swollen knee.

These conditions -: -have no relationship 2 Ur bruising , as they R within the knee capsule. If bruising is of major concern, start by Cing Ur PCP, and have lab studies.

Yes: just because you have a torn meniscus does not always mean you need surgery. You will need physical therapy, and exercise as the most important part of your therapy program.you need to discuss this with your physician so that you are given the appropriate therapy.

Knee swelling: It is possible you have some persistent irregularity or some arthritis, further tearing, or synovitis /inflammation. Check with doc if still locking for you.

i was diagnosed with a torn meniscus two years ago. i am now having sharp pain in my knee with some swelling and the pain is shooting down my calf. i dont see my surgeon til few weeks. when should i go to er? i try not to go but in pain. i did pt b4?

: Try local heat and Ibuprofen and avoid too much weight bearing and walking. Hope you do well
