i have a torn distal biceps tendon had mri and i was told it was about 1/4 torn do i need surery?

Maybe not: If the tendon is mostly intact and there is no gap you could try conservative care. Was this an acute injury? If so better prognosis for success without surgery. Would need 6-8 weeks of protection from sudden jerking force ( no heavy resistance).  Needs to be watched and should steadily improve. If not, may need surgery.

Inflammation: When a tendon gets inflamed, you will often get an inflammatory tissue that forms around the tendon.  Sometimes there is enough that it can push the tendon forward.  So you have an inflammation of the tendon (tendonitis).  If not treated correctly, this can lead to rupture of the tendon.

Protection: There are two tendons if one ruptures then you will have a weakness in that arm from now on.  Surgical replacement of the ruptured tendon is sometimes possible and you should see an orthopedic surgeon for this.  Gradually and slowly strengthing the remaining tendon with low weight exercises may help prevent its rupture in the future.  Always avoid lifting very heavy objects to prevent rupture.

5 months: Distal biceps ruptures need to be repaired surgically. If done well, gentle range of motion exercises are begun early, using the arm gently for 3 months. At the 3 months junction normal use without lifting or stress, if everything goes well, normal use and stressat five months.

See ORS: Pain in this area could be due to a slap lesion. ( labral tear involving the biceps anchor). Unstable 'slap' tears require arthroscopic fixation. Most are seen in overhead athletes.'popping and catching' are common w/ slap tears.Other possibilities include rot. Cuff tendinitis, shoulder instability , and ac jt problems. See an ors who has specialty training in shoulder arthroscopy. Good luck!

i had small partially ruptured biceps tendon, mri after a year: subakromio-subdeltoidni burzitis. can i carry around 5-10kg backpack with this injury?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Carrying a backpack on your shoulder should not cause a problem with the biceps tendon, although the act of bringing it up onto your shoulder might.  I would not hesitate to discuss the specifics of your case with your orthopedist.
