Contin. biotene: Biotene is safe to use long term so keep using it if it is solving your dry mouth problem. Should not cause any problems to salivary glands, but if your mouth is dry, then there may already be problem with gland. Often decreased salivation is a side effect of another medication you are taking.

dry mouth/bad breath from anti-anxiety meds. tried "dry mouth" toothpaste and mouthwash. lemon water.. gum doesn't work long at all.. no luck. help?

Dry mouth: Older (tricylic) antidepressants used for depression and anxiety commonly cause dry mouth. But SSRI, MAOI type medications and most of the short-acting anti-anxiety medications are not known to cause dry mouth/bad breath. Discuss alternate med with prescribing doctor. You may also benefit from a dental exam to make sure there is no other condition causing dry mouth/bad breath. I hope this helps.

Dry mouth: The most common cause of dry mouth is medications.  However your mouth may react to certain ingredients in toothpaste.  If this happens try another brand and find one that works for you.  Your dentist can help you find a toothpaste and help your dry mouth. Avoid mouthwash with alcohol.

i take several meds that cause dry mouth. i use boitene toothpaste and mouthwash my mouth is so dry it wakes me in middle of night what can i do?

Dry mouth treatment: The treatment depends on the cause, but dry mouth is often a side effect of medication. Dry mouth may improve with an adjusted dosage or a new prescription. For example replace Phenergan (promethazine) , Promethazine with Zofran. Sip water as much as you can, use OTC (xylitol) saliva substitutes, practice nose breathing.

have been dealing with extreme dry mouth at night only, and periodic sore throats for past 3 weeks.  condition is causing minimal sleep as it wakes him up at least 6-8 times per night to drink water.  using biotene spray & prescript toothpaste?

Humidifier: People who live in climates with low humidity (esp in the winter) can greatly benefit from using a humidifier  during the night. Prevent dryness by using OTC nasal saline to rinse and open nasal passages to avoid mouth breathing at night.  Avoid OTC cold remedies as the medications worsen oral dryness. Maintain good hydration during daytime.

i have a lump on the roof of my mouth that sometimes swells up and gets sore and keeps causing me to get a sore throat and infection. my dentist have said its dry mouth but i'm not convinced. i'm currently using toothpast and mouthwash for this?

: Such a lump is not a likely cause of sore throat or other infection. If you haven't seen a dentist when the lump has swollen up, do that next. If your dentist has examined you at that time and says nothing is wrong, you can rely on that as well. If in doubt, get a second opinion from an otolaryngologist (ENT specialist) -- also preferably at a time when increased swelling is apparent. Good luck.

Yes: One of the functions of saliva is constant flushing of the teeth and oral tissues to remove any food debris.  This prevents bacterial buildup which is responsible for dental decay.  Additionally, salivary enzymes also have anti-bacterial properties which also prevents decay.
