my 12 year olds top canine tooth has become loose and is painful. it is her adult tooth. she bit on it a few days ago, and it has become progressively loose since then. she is otherwise completely healthy, and no history of tooth decay or issues.

Dentist: Doubt that it's permanent tooth. Probably baby tooth. But either way, she needs professional help. Get her to a Dentist as soon as possible to determine the cause of her pain and thus the correct treatment. Sorry, there's nothing you can buy at a store, you have to see a Dentist.

Depends: Removal of teeth in a two year old with decay depends on the amount of decay present.  If the tooth is too badly decayed and does not have enough sound tooth structure to have a filling or crown placed, the tooth should be removed.

Yes: Milk, whether from a breast or a bottle, contains sugars. Bacteria convert sugars into acids that etch the calcium out of tooth enamel. ADA recommends that ALL children have 1st dental exam no later than 1st b'day just to prevent problems like your child's. Recommend he/she immediately see a Pedodontist, a Children's Dental Specialist, ASAP, now, quickly.

As : As a parent and dentist, I am very happy to hear that you are taking your child's oral health very seriously.
Baby teeth are milky white in color and should have very little stains.  Black/brown stains can indicate a problem.
The best way to check and make sure that there are no problems is by taking your child to a pediatric dentist.
The pediatric dentist has special training in handling your child and give him/her a great dental experience that will last a lifetime.  In addition, proper x-rays will also help tell if there are any problems between the teeth.
It is great that you check and are vigilant at home, but you should also have your child benefit from a visit to a professional.

Decay repaired: Your child's baby teeth are necessary for eating, smiling, and holding position for the adult teeth that come later. If you ignore the decay pain and infection will occur long before they are lost naturally.  Your child requires dental procedures performed by a general or pediatric dentist.

Yes: Yes there is potential though I have not seen full study on this. Prednisone do have side effect of osteoporosis which is thinning of bones. And so it can theoretically affect the bones of the facial structures and the mouth.
