Not viral: Canker sores are not caused by a virus. They are thought to be auto-immune related. In other words they may be the body fighting itself. When the body is under stress: physical, emotional, etc, canker sores are more prone to erupt. Make sure the sores you are noting are not viral sores caused by herpes. These are also known as fever blisters and cold sores.

Sores take time: Any disruption in the gums or canker sores will generally take around 10 days to run their course. Menthol gum, medicated losenges can give temporary relief.

recently had sex with girl. sore showed up on tip of tongue that i thought was a canker sore. there are white sores on throat and tonsils. tonsils and throat are swollen. nothing on genitalia though. is this more likely straight herpes or tonsillitis?

Maybe strep,flu,etc.: Tongue and throat symptoms can be from viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it was likely allergies, irritation, or a mild cold. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics. Other possible viral infections are mono and oral herpes. Doctor can check.

Canker sore: Canker sores are the most common oral lesions. Individual ulcers typically last 1-2 weeks. The condition is idiopathic (cause is not known) recurrent aphthous ulcers is usually self-limiting. If concerned see your dentist for laser treatment, immediate solution.

White patch: That's what Dentistds and Physicians spend all that time in school learning to do. Many lesions look similar to =other lesions. If it bothers you, see your DDS/DMD or MD/DO. If it lasts longer than 14 days from onset to complete disappearance, go immediately to Dentist or Physician for examination.

Can call Dr on video: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics needed), a cold or influenza, EB virus, or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or acid reflux. Usually, a person sees the doctor (call first) if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. COVID-19 infections tend to have cough, whereas strep usually lacks cough but has more throat pain.

Possible infection: Your mouth ulcers are viral and are usually associated with lower grade fever.  The fact that you are having high grade fevers is concerning.   You may have a secondary bacterial infection or abscess .  Such infections can be life threatening.  See your physician immediately.

canker sores: Canker sores usually last about 2 weeks and heal on their own.  Your dentist should be able to help make the symptoms more bearable.  Since other things can look like a canker sore, especially if they last much longer, you will want to have it checked out by your dentist.

Best: TIME: Though i routinely prescribe nsaids to control pain from canker sores during the 3-5 days that they are uncomfortable. In rare cases, called "major aphthae" i will prescribe a short course of oral corticosteroid--especially if the lesion/s interfere with swallowing or speech. If on other areas, can be cauterized with a laser or chemicals. If Ibuprofen doesn't cut it, call your dentist for help.
