Very normal: Ear pain after tonsillectomy is totally normal. Usually peaks between days 3-6 after surgery. Hearing loss is probably related to swollen eustachian tube also normal.

Infections: The removal of tonsils does not end your risk of either strep throat or any of the other causes of throat infection. At best, it limits the intensity of your pain. The other tissues of the throat remain vulnerable to infection.Your ear may be infected or showing pressure as part of a combined infection of both areas.

i still have ear pain 47 days after tonsillectomy, went to ent to get it check out before and he said it was still throat pain but it's been 47 days?

TMJ: You may want to consider TMJ. the most common cause of ear pain not caused by ear problems is TMJ. Other TMJ symptoms include jaw pain, chewing pain, jaw popping and headache. If this is you, see an oral surgeon or TMJ expert.

can laser tonsillectomy be performed if tonsils cancer is a possibility? i have an enlarged tonsil and ear pain. ent & pcp say no cancer. want it out.

Laser tonsillectomy: Yes you can have a laser tonsillectomy. Tonsillar cancer is a rare possibility.

Ear infections: If the infections are frequent and don't clear with antibiotics, Eustachian tubes are about the only option. It may be the tonsils are blocking the drainage of fluid from the middle ear. Make sure his/her immunizations are up to date. Have a hearing assessment done to insure the infections did not cause damage. All the best, it is always a difficult decision.

5 days since tonsillectomy/ adenoidectomy the right side of throat is hurting very bad ear pain, head pain, feeling sick. is this normal for recovery?

Tonsillectomy postop: What you are suffering sounds like a very typically post-op course.  You have to expect the worst sore throat of your life and it will likely last about 2 weeks.  Head pain is probably from decreased fluid intake as a result of sore throat.  Ear pain is referred pain from the tonsil beds to the ears and is an expected occurrence, although not everyone suffers this.  Make sure you drink lots.
