An infection: This could be anything, including strep infection. Get to a doctor as soon as possible.

: What you described is consistent with Strep throat. you should see a doctor and get tested. If it is Strep throat, antibiotic treatment is imperative.

: Puss is a result of acute inflammation and usually consists of death white blood cells/neutrophils, and coagulated blood proteins. If you have puss on your tonsils, get tested for Strep throat. If you have Strep throat, it would need to be treated with prescription antibiotics.

i only have 1 tonsil. every now & then will get a sore throat. tonsil leaks fluid & has puss balls. any thoughts?

Surgery?: It is highly unlikely you only have one tonsil.  Most likely the other tonsil is so small, it can not be visualized.  If the tonsil that you see has pus and infection, you may consider a culture and sensitivity for an appropriate antibiotic.  The indication for tonsil surgery is 3-4 episodes of documented tonsillitis in a year.

See ENT: After all this treatment it sounds like you may have some abnormality in your sinus cavities or tonsils. I suggest that you see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to see if they can determine the cause. Sometimes removal of the tonsils or repair of a deviated septum in the nose can stop these types of chronic problems.

Tonsils: Yes -- if you have pus (exudate) on your tonsils, this may be due to strep or mono and is best evaluated by your physician.

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold virus, influenza (Tamiflu may be needed), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, is with moderate or high fever, or with much coughing or worrisome symptoms. One's doctor can review the ultrasound scan report.

Swollen tonsil: Yes, could be a foreign body reaction. But anytime there is just one swollen tonsil should be checked to make sure not a tumor or something like lymphoma. Go see an ent.
