Tongue ulcer: Orabase will not heal an ulcer. It is an oral bandage that can be applied to the ulcer before meals to keep it from being irritated.
The ulcer will heal spontaneously in 7-10 days. Try to stay on a bland diet. There is some research that suggests that applying honey to the ulcer will help it heal faster.

Canker sore Tx: The pharmacies are filled with medications to treat canker sores. It varies from pharmacy to pharmacy. Ask your pharmacist (or dentist) which ones he\she feels is most helpful. Your dentist can prescribe orabase with kenalog (triamcinolone).

Canker sores are common aphthous ulcers of mouth that occur situationally, often in response to stressors, are bacterial or viral, & can be treated topically with many otc products that reduce local discomfort & potentially speed healing. However, oral/dental problems & a number of systemic diseases cause canker sore-like lesions--crohn's, behcet's, std (sexually transmitted).

Hand foot mouth is caused by coxsackie virus and there are often associated blisters or ulcers in the hands and feet or groin area. Simple mouth ulcers are apthous ulcers.
