See a dentist: You need to have someone look at the ulcers. Hand foot and mouth disease is a viral infection that has symptoms occurring elsewhere in the body. Mouth ulcers are from a variety of sources and can vary in how long they take to go away or be treated. See your dentist and he or she can help you figure it out.

Several ways: Coxsackie virus (hand-foot-mouth disease) lesions in the mouth are usually more numerous and there is no history of trauma or injury inside the mouth. Also coxsackie can occur with fever and other blisters may appear on the tips of fingers and toes. It usually occurs around the summer but can be in daycare settings throughout the year.
