If your doc says: You have thrush please follow what he/she says. White patches in throat and on tongue are an indicator of thrush.  If it doesn't clear you can get tested for other things.  Probiotics can help.  A nutritionist or natural doc can guide you.

Tongue lesions: Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause various tongue lesions. Your dr can check for this w/ a blood test. Also, various medications can cause dry mouth, which can lead to lesions on the tongue. Smoking and chewing tobacco can cause oral cancer, but this is unlikely in an 18 year old.There is also a benign condition called "geographic tongue".

Herpes simplex: Over 85% of the population has been infected with HSV and can reactivate at any time. Do not know if that is what you actually have, but if you have no risk factors (unprotected sex, sharing needles, etc.) HIV and other STDs should not be a concern.

Several causes: Tongue lesions can be due to fungal/yeast infections, vitamin deficiencies, underlying disease, medications, allergies.  Might be best to see Dr in person or on video, may need some basic lab work. If your diet has not been balanced, taking a good multiple vitamin could help (try for a full month), plus eating a balanced diet including fruits &amp; vegetables, whole grains, dairy, &amp; proteins

Possible but...: Yes, that's possible but it could be  many other things as well. You also may have more than one type of lesion. All lesions that last more than two weeks should be personally evaluated by an oral surgeon. If you smoke or drink alcohol you are at more risk of oral cancer. Please get it evaluated by seeing a dentist in person and  don't take any chances with your life.

Depends: Get checked out, and make sure there are no B vitamin deficiencies. Also make sure you do not have food sensitivities and have enough omega 3's.
