Tolerance: Yes, sometimes higher doses of Cabergoline or bromocriptine are needed.  It could be drug tolerance, or it could be another medication or condition that is increasing prolactin.  Usually the prolactinoma will shrink with treatment.  Sometimes, relatively high doses of Cabergoline are needed.  Talk to your endocrinologist.

Depends on med: It depends on the type of medication. Some medications will require that the dose be increased to obtain the same effects, such as pain medications. Other medications will require you to be changed to another medication in the same class or sometimes even a completely different class of medication.

: If you are not taking the medicine every day, then you are unlikely to become tolerant of this dose. But, if you begin to notice that the same dose is no longer effectively controlling your symptoms, then you should see your doctor to have this evaluated. Good luck!

i am probably reading into your question, but as a physician I have several more questions to seek the story behind this question.

If you are using pain medication regularly and are becoming tolerant of it i would want to do a full history of your pain and the amount of your use.

Irritability, unfortunately can be a side effect of pain. But, it can be a side effect of addiction.  Keep talkin.

Who is your doctor?: If you are appropriately starting buprenorphine treatment, there should be a doctor who has received a special waiver (with training) who knows how to do it, and that doctor is the one you should be questioning. If you are taking it without prescription, you are putting yourself at risk of precipitated withdrawal if you have recently been taking other opioids. Talk to doctor/pharmacist.

Rapid metab?: Some people are rapid metabolizers of amide type local anesthetics like lidocaine.  A simple genetic test (buccal swab) would give  you the answer. People do not usually develop a tolerance to lidocaine. There are many other choices for local anesthesia. The Ester class of  LA could also be used. Like any other medicine it is based on weak science and trial and error. The Art of Medicine!

Side effects: Side effects are simply a possibility in a small percentage of patients.   The majority of people who take medications do not experience side effects.  Count yourself in the lucky majority.  Best wishes.

can your body build a tolerance to anti-inflammatory drug?

Accepted Answer

Caution: I am not sure to the answer to this. However, caution should be employed with anti-inflammatories as they can cause gastric irritation including internal bleeding from ulcers. There are new "black box warnings" as well which warn of possible cardiovascular complications. So, if you feel the antiinflammatory is not working be careful before you may indiscriminately start increasing the dose.
