TO KNIFE A NAIL BED: Sounds like a repeat procedure may be coming, especially if there is some toe nail left.  But in situations like these, patients have best results  when doing warm water soak 3 times/day, otherwise ensure area is clean &amp; dry, give it plenty of exposure to air, &amp; daily bandage changes (youtube instructions on best bandaging, almost all videos with over 50k views are reliable)

gauze stuck to toenail bed after removal procedure. scab formed and terrible pain. how do you safely remove?

Accepted Answer

: Soak your foot into a warm alkaline sitz bath then 10 minutes later you try to remove it with a tweezer. You can take Ibuprofen OTC 200 mg x 2-3 tablets every 6-8 hours with full stomach, as needed for pain.

after the removal of my ingrown toenail via a pediatrist procedure how long should i wait before going into a lake to swim?

Nail Surgery: Normal activity levels may cause you pain and increase the swelling of the affected toe, if began too soon. Resume normal, light activities after giving your foot a day or two to heal and the pain subsides. Refrain from running, jumping and other strenuous activities for at least two weeks after surgery.
Wait at least 7 days before going in a lake. After 2-3 days you can go in a swimming pool.

: You ask good questions. The treating doctor can answer your concerns. Try apply a topical antibiotic, ie. Neosporin or polysporin. Cover with a bandaid   Continue soaking. Takes time for the nail bed and nail matrix to heal. By four weeks should be healed.  wait and see what grows out. If final nail apply topical anti fungal ( Lamisil)  until nail has grown out. Prevent shoe irritation

Ask for: Emela and apply it an hour before. Will numb the skin so injection doesn't hurt as much.

Matrix removal: After matrix removal, your toenail most likely will not grow back. Most doctors will do a partial matrixectomy, where only a portion of the matrix is removed. So you are not losing your entire nail, just the portion that has been affecting you.

Toe nail: This should have healed by now. If it is still not healed please go and see the doctor that did the procedure for you.

Not really: Though it occurs. I would recommend more frequent bandage changes if thre was an odor and to use something like betadine to clean the nail bed. The betadine is drying so it would cut down on the moisture which is probably aiding in that smell.

: I would hope that you were given follow up instructions from the doctor who removed the toenail. If not, call their office asap and ask the doctor what to expect and when to follow up.

Accepted Answer

Nail removal: Keep your toe clean, antibiotic ointment, and a dressing over the toe until healed. Each day the toe should be better. If getting more painful, swelling or more painful then the toe could be getting infected. Call your doctor if this occurs.
