How do you care for a nail after a toenail removal?

Nail removal: Keep your toe clean, antibiotic ointment, and a dressing over the toe until healed. Each day the toe should be better. If getting more painful, swelling or more painful then the toe could be getting infected. Call your doctor if this occurs.

Typically there is: Some oozing and drainage, whether a simple removal or more if it was a permanent removal. For the most part, it is a matter of keeping the nail bed clean and protected. Your doctor may have prescribed soaks, possibly with the use of a topical antibiotic dressing. Keep the nail bed clean and covered at all times.
