Keep it clean: Keep it covered with a bandaid as long as it is tender or sensitive to you.  Once the nail bed is all dried out, the new nail is forming and it is no longer painful, then covering it is optional.

Toe nail: I would see a foot and ankle specialist and have him or her remove it properly. He should check if their is a laceration or fracture that has to be fixed.

If the nail is not c: If the nail is not completely detached put a bandage or tape over the nail to keep it from ripping off.  Eventually the nail plate will loosen and detach without trauma.  If painful or bleeding or redness see your podiatrist for immediate care.

An injury?: If your nail is loose and coming off sometimes it is better to have it partially removed.  You have to be careful that you do not do any more damage to it by catching it on your socks tearing it further.

Check with your podiatrist and make sure there is nothing else going on under the nail which caused it to come loose in the first place.

Approximately 1 year: Depending on how it was injured it may take up to 1 year for the nail to fully grow out.

They could: But if the nail has been bruised or otherwise injured more severely the root (matrix) that they grow from can be injured, causing the nail(s) to grow back deformed.  Injury to the nail can cause secondary infection, which can also further deform/damage the new nail.

: Nothing will prevent it from falling off. You can try putting a Band-Aid or some paper tape on it until it falls off naturally. If it is infected, red, hot us tender then you can make a Telehealth with  HealthTap or topical antibiotics, or oral prescription, if needed

Good probability: There is a good chance of the the nail growing back.  If you treat the fungus while it is growing back there is a better chance of growing a healthy nail in place of the diseased one.
