See a doctor: Either a stroke or Bell's Palsey would be on top of my list of possible causes for your symptoms. I've also seen MS cause symptoms like you have. Hopefully, you have some other kind of problem. I would start with an Ear, Nose &amp; Throat Specialist and go from there. Good luck..

i had surgery on my back in jan of this year. since then i have had worsening pain/cold sensation in left ear with no signs of tmj or infection..

Ear symptoms: If there are no other signs or symptoms to suggest ear pathology, I suspect some irritability of superficial nerves in that region. The cause would be obscure but at this time I recommend simple observation as long as an otolaryngologist has evaluated you and sees no other problem. Most of these types of problems will resolve.

Two diff issues: TMJ issues involve problems with the actual joint which are not normally related to an infection. An infection of your tooth can be either endodontic or periodontal in nature, and will involve microorganisms.  No swelling and no exudate does not imply no infection.

TMJ Problems: Problems with your TMJ are not bacterial in nature.. there are no microorganisms involved. I suggest you have your ear wax cleaned out by a physician and if your problem persists have your dentist determine what treatment if any is needed for your TMJ problem. All the best...

TMJ vs Ear Infection: They may feel the same to you and it is not something that you can self diagnose. See both your PCP or ENT specialist and a dentist with knowledge of TMD\TMJ issues to find out what's going on in your particular case. It's not inconceivable that one has both problems at the same time.

Possible: Issues with the TMJ can certainly cause or exacerbate symptoms of the ear like tinnitus, earaches, and hearing diminishment.  There are many other causes of ear aches separate from the TMJ and these all must be considered in a diagnosis.

Otalgia: Can be from teeth,adjacent tissue. Try local anaesthetic drops......it will help.
