i have tinnitus in one ear with no hearing loss. was evaluated by ent. is unilateral tinnitus always a warning sign for acoustic neuroma? can i get unilateral tinnitus from tmj or allergies ?

Follow up: The most common cause of non pulsatile tinnitus is Noise Induced Hearing Loss. You should have a formal test with audiology even if you feel that you have no hearing loss. You should also be scoped by the ENT to rule out a patulous eustachian tube. Then you should have an MRI of the IAC to rule out masses or lesions that may contribute. Try white noise. Good luck to you. Follow up with Neurology.

Solve TMD: Implicit in your question is that you know that your tinnitus is secondary to tmd.  It may very well be because there is abundant evidence that disorders of the jaw joint, muscle spasm and even dental disease can produce tinnitus through central connections to the trigeminal nerve.  So the answer to solving your problem is to alleviate the cause of your tinnitus which is tmd.  See dentist.

TMJ MRI: There is no diagnostic study to confirm that tinnitus is due to TMJ disease. MRI is a limited study with few images, and VERY technique sensitive. Unless there is an expert MRI technician armed with "special" accessories for the TMJ MRI, the study is relatively unproductive. And if a TMJ condition is identified, surgery is likely not going to cure tinnitus as many frustrated patients have found.

Tinnitus and TMJ: Tinnitus is noise or ringing in the ears. There is no drug for cure. Tinnitus is not a disease, but a condition that can result from many underlying causes (e.g. Tmj). 
Rec.: see ENT or orofacial pain specialist to rule out secondary pathology.

Depends on the cause: Tinnitus can have multiple causes.  The first thing to do is rule out medical causes by seeing and ENT to be sure there is no pathology (probably not, but must be ruled out).  Ask the ENT who he/she works with if it is suspected to be a TMJ  or other issue and then begin to eliminate the possible causes to find the avenue to take to help manage the situations.  Sometimes it doesn't go away.

Possible: Having the TMJ treated can make these issues resolve.  However if they consider to persist after treatment then see an ENT or a neurologist.

Tinnitus type II : Tinnitus type ii or not ringing, could be cause  by TMJ clicking, middle ear muscle contraction (e.g. Stapidius).  Sound is not ringing, but rushing, clicking, thumping or other atonal sound. It’s a good sign if tinnitus is intermittent because it’s proof that the auditory system is capable of functioning normally.  There are no drugs approved for the treatment of tinnitus.

No and no: Tmj problems and anxiety may be recurrent & long-lasting but intermittent tinnitus sources. Temporary relief of anxiety should temporarily relieve tinnitus (a therapeutic trial) TMJ is potentially reversible, so related tinnitus could resolve.

TMJoint issues: Try soft diet, nsaids, warm moist heat to outside of face right in front of ears near joints, no gum chewing. There is not much else you can do on your own without seeing a dentist for an evaluation and treatment. This might include a bite guard to be worn, especially at night.  The tinnitus may or may not be related to tmjoint inflammation. You should also see physician or ENT specialist for eval.
