Tinnitus type II : Tinnitus type ii or not ringing, could be cause by TMJ clicking, middle ear muscle contraction (e.g. Stapidius). Sound is not ringing, but rushing, clicking, thumping or other atonal sound. It’s a good sign if tinnitus is intermittent because it’s proof that the auditory system is capable of functioning normally. There are no drugs approved for the treatment of tinnitus.

Yes: Tinnitus can definitely be related to TMJ with no pain. Very prominent tinnitus is unlikely related to TMJ regardless of how bad the TMJ symptoms are. Prominent tinnitus required evaluation by an ENT doc.
