PM: There are studies showing that taking antihypertensives especially ace inhibitors and calcium blockers(amlodipine )may be more effective when taken at night with positive effects on nocturnal blood pressure lowering.

Norvasc (amlodipine): You can take anytime in a day, but take it at the same time daily.

Norvasc (amlodipine): Amlodipine (norvasc) has a very long (72 hours) half time. This means that is takes 3 days for 1/2 of the dose to be eliminated by the body. In conclusion, it doesn't matter when you take it  as long as you take it every day :-).

Talk to your Dr: I would not call your beta blocker as the problem--it is not a high dose, and should not have that pronounced of an effect through the entire day into the night. You may just have a low resting heart rate, in which case other class(-es) of meds may be better options for you. Should discuss your concerns w/your dr--otherwise will never know about this!

i experience irregular heartbeat especially when i lift my left arm for a long time or when my left chest is squeezed. i take amlodipine besylate 5mg once a day. can you prescribe something to control my irregular heartbeat? thanks?

: Before treating a symptom, a proper diagnosis would be needed. In your case the circumstances you perceive the irregular heart beat are suggesting a musculoskeletal challenge, either strain or direct pressure and as such a pectoral or chest wall fasciculation or twitching appears likely as well. Given the fact that heart may still be the culprit addressing the issue with your doc would be best.

Be advised that supplements like phentramine are not investigated by agencies such as the FDA and physicians cannot vouch for their ingredients,safety or efficacy. You would be taking a risk taking this supplement which may antagonize amlodipine and aggravate hypertension. Your pharmacist may be able to give you more information.

Different class: Cannot be compared. Can be taken together. Both have unique properties. If associated with diabetes....enalapril can be better. But can cause cough and angioedema. Amloidopin ( norvasc) is good, it can cause ankle edema, constipation. Kidney, heart conditions guide the choice also.
