what are the possible causes of feeling pain/tightness down below your rib cage?  it's more of tightness than pain though.

Accepted Answer

Many causes: Tightness in the chest area can be a sign of a heart attack.  If this persists, then you may want to go see a doctor asap.   Urgent care or er.   Other causes could be muscle soreness, gastrointestinal issues or lung issues.  Please have your md evaluate you.

how to confirm sideway slant of the spine? i suspect my spine is slanted to one side giving a tight feeling to one side of my body under the rib cage

Exam and X-rays : Some people have a degree of kyphoscoliosis which can make the spine appear to slant to one side.  You health provider can determine if you have this condition.   Many cases are mild and do not require any specific treatment.

i have a dull constant uncomfortable feeling under my left rib cage feels tight yet a heavy sunken in feeling i feel as though my rib moves if i bend that way its hard to get comfortable in any position no injuries no pain w/ full stomach or breathin?

: That area is a meeting place for lower anterior ribs &amp;rib cage muscles &amp;nerves,base of the left lung,spleen,left upper abdominal muscles,splenic flexure of the colon,edge of stomach&amp;duodenum. Dull symptomatology there,in the absence of other symptoms or injury could be of minor musculoskeletal origin. Have an MD examine you. Any appropriate testing can be done depending upon the assessment.

my hida scan showed my gb ef at 15%.  my only symtoms are occassional gas & bloating and a tight feeling under the right rib cage. should it come out?

Probably: In addition to hida scan you probably had an ultrasound study to determine presence of gall stones, sludge etc. Indicative of gall bladder disease. 15% ejection fraction after injection of cck is quite low. If test was administered with slow injection of cck usually with gall bladder removed symptoms will improve. The gall bladder either has chronic gall bladder disease or dyskinesia.

weird tightness/pulsing below right rib cage, developed into stabbing pain that sometimes radiates to left arm, back, and/or neck. feeling of something there where pulsing/pain occurs.

Pulsing: Pulsating symptoms are seen with artery movements and an aneurysm. Gall bladder dysfunction is a cause of right upper abdominal discomfort radiating around to the back. Your symptoms are atypical and I recommend an evaluation by a physician who will take a thorough history, perform a physical examination and order any appropriate tests in order to pinpoint the cause of your symptoms.

?scoliosis: If you have a curvature of the spine , as we get older this can affect the rib cage and give the visual impression that the ribs are uneven and protruding.  Please see an orthopaedist.

have a very slight almost muscle pain/tightness feeling below my left pec on my rib cage only when i breathe in deeply or yawn. its quite mild but still figured id ask. any ideas as to what this could be. im a 34 year old male, fairly healthy. ty?

: It could be a mild strain or inflammation of the muscle. Any tenderness? Another possibility is some pinching of an intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs. It does.not appear to be a lung or breast  tissue issue as I assume the nipple&amp;breast are not tender. I assume this will resolve in a short time. See your MD as needed.

Tightness c/w muscle: contraction, which (if enough &amp; sustained) can become painful. All our muscles (heart muscle more so; especially inner walls nearest chambers) ↓ blood flow during contraction. The contraction pressure opposes &amp; ↓es blood flow into muscles via arteries &amp; capillaries while ↑es flow outward into the veins. Thus sustained contractions induces ischemia &amp; (if long enough) contractions become painful.

Tearing chest pain: Tearing, tight chest pain under underneath left rib cage is serious problem. It may be heart, aorta, or pleuritis. Please go to er and have ct scan of chest to rule out above conditions, specially aortic dissection. Thanks.

i have had a tightening like under my rib cage as if something is pulling tight round my midriff it is annoying but no pain what could it be??

Vague symptoms: could be muscle spasm but so hard to tell without more info. good there is no pain. if bloating, it could be constipation, gas, IBS, GERD, tumor (very unlikely).
