See your dentist: Make sure this is thrush versus another infection.  Oral thrush is usually white and is due to a fungus called candida and is treated with antifungal medications.

Coated tongue: There are innumerable causes of white coated tongue, mostly not serious. HIV is among the causes, but it's a rare one. And coated tongue almost never is the main or only symptom of HIV; you would be quite ill. If you think you might be at risk for HIV, see a doctor for testing for HIV (and other STDs). But testing definitely isn't needed just because of coated tongue.

Brush or use a tongue scraper on your tongue. If it doesn't get better, call your dentist, medical doctor or ENT specialist for an examination.
