the skin behind my toe nails are peeling in my right foot (all nails showing the skin peeling). my left foot doesnt show this at all. it is only the skin immediately behind the toe nails (not between toes etc). what could cause this?

: Could possibly be a fungus infection, esp if it's unilateral. Suggest seeing a dermatologist for fungal culture and appropriate treatment.

Thank : Thank you for your excellent description of your problem.  I also love when there is a photo, however the link you provided didn't lead to a photo, but an error.

But from your description, i'd say you have an onychia, which is a little infection along the base of the toenail, probably from irritation during the run.  The typical scenario is a tiny blister forms from irritation.  With continued irritation, the blister breaks and bacteria invade to produce a small, localized infection.

It's not serious, and unless there is overt redness, heat and swelling or a pocket of pus, it will probably subside on its own (assuming you're in good health, not a diabetic, no poor circulation, etc.).  Keep it covered with a band aid, especially when you run.  Warm water soaks will help too.  If you keep getting this, you may want to get some roll foam to cover your toe while you run to prevent irritation to the area.

In rare occurrences, the nail needs to be removed to allow pus to drain, but this hardly ever is needed.

my 2.5 year old son skin round his toe nails is peeling off and always have sweaty feet, he also drinks lots of water and pee a lot, what can it be?

2 different issues: The peeling skin is probably the result of the sweaty feet and a condition called dyshydrotic eczema.  I treat this with moisturizing skin creams and "air time". The skin needs to be moist but able to breath.  With shoes, cotton socks need to be worn to absorb excess moisture.  The drinking and peeing is more likely behavioral than anything else, but a quick urine test will do more to reassure you.

my big toenail on left foot is ingrown on both sides and has cut through skin. theres also a growth of skin (??) where its bleeding. ive cut out a good bit of the ingrown nail. what should i do now/what can doctors do?

Ingrown nail: Possibly.  If there is tenderness on the side of the nail, and the skin on that side is thickening, the most likely cause is an ingrown toenail.  I would see your Dr or a podiatrist to be sure, because they can become very painful if infected!  Good luck!  (Sometimes soaking the foot in warm Epson saltwater helps!)

Athlete's foot: This can be caused by a fungal infection, called tinea pedis (commonly known as athlete's foot).  It can also be caused by excessive dryness.  Sometimes it is difficult to tell which it is just by looking.  A podiatrist could take some skin shavings and send them for biopsy, or start an antifungal cream to see if it improves.  If not, moisturizing cream is recommended.

Oral antifungal: There are many different options including topicals, oral antifungals, and lasers. The most effective treatments are oral antifungals such as sporanox, lamisil, (terbinafine) Diflucan and can have an 80-90% efficacy rate after 3 months. Topical creams have a much lower cure rate (40%) and have to be applied for 9 months. Lasers are also effective but there hasn't been a great amount of research in this area.

No: If you have toenail fungus this would not cause tingling or numbness. If you had athletes foot it can cause burning and pain. The numbness and tingling is likely from another cause and there are a number of causes for that and would require an evaluation to narrow those down.
