Fungus: Most likely its fungus but it could be blood under the nail. Blood will resolve in time, fungus will not.

Black Toenails: Any discoloration to nails is not normal especially black nails. It could be a fungus or something much more serious, see a podiatrist for a nail biopsy.

Many possibilities: It could be a fungus or mold infection, bruising, melanoma, etc.. See a podiatrist for evaluation and treatment.

Get it checked: See a dermatologist or podiatrist. The fact that it is on both feet is a reassuring feature. It may be an infection like onychomycosis or even from trauma to the nail.
