Certainly!: The number of calories burned during any exercise depends on 1) your weight, 2) length of work out and 3) intensity of workout. Generally, an average 150lb individual burns a range of 590-750 calories in an hour, depending upon intensity and resistence. To burn oodles of calories, lengthen the workout!

UTI: Most common problem like this is a urinary tract infection. It would have zero to,do,with your workouts, unless tight spandex rubbed the genitalia area, breaking the skin and introducing bacteria near the urethra. Continue your exercises but do get a urine screen and test to determine if this is the problem. If not, then a further kidney/bladder work up would be indicated and a urologist.Good luck

how many extra calories does the atkins diet burn? i know that fat is burned instead of carbs on the atkins diet, but how does that change the amount of calories burned?

Less calories: The important thing about the atkins diet is that you eat very little carbohydrate.  As a result you eat more fat.  For most people, fat is more satisfying in terms of feeling full than carbs.  As a result you eat fewer calories overall and lose weight.  Also, when fat is burned it produces ketones.  These suppress your appetite as well.  The amount of calories burned depends on your activity.

how accurate is the calorie count on my elliptical machine?? if i'm working out for 30+ minutes and the calories burned says 100, can i rely on that? i understand i must burn more than i consume, but how can i calculate my burn at 5'5", 185 lbs??

Calorie calculate: Get the app Cronometer and enter what you eat and exercise you do and see. 100 calories is about 1/2 Snickers.  You need to exercise more or eat fewer calories.  Simple in concept difficult in execution.

I applaud your: insight. I believe it is a good sign that you are aware of your counting calorie behavior and that it could be a sign that you are starting to obsess about calorie intake.  Also very good that you have shared with your treating doctors. It would be difficult to lose weight without some awareness of calorie intake. Continue to observe and report if you recognize former eating disorder behaviors.

PCOD ?'s: If the diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PSOD) has been confirmed by your gyn physician, taking pills of any kind should be confirmed by your physician.  With "PCOD", the treatment is primarily to start oral birth control, which will stop constant estrogen stimulation of the uterine lining, and preserve your fertility.

no matter what i do i cannot lose weight, all my labs are fine, no thyroid problems or nothing, i do exercise with a personal trainer, tried dash diet, fasting, low carb, everything! my calorie intake is not more than 1300. why i cannot lose weight?

: When someday someone figures out the answer to this question, she probably will get the Nobel Prize. Obesity and weight control are among the biggest and most daunting medical uncertainties. Increasing your physical activity (calories burned) may help, i.e. increased exercise. Speak with experienced doctors about specific diets. But don't feel guilty if it doesn't work. It's not your fault!
