Not harmful, depends: Biotin is very safe; there is no known toxic dose. Biotin combined with 600 mcg of chromium picolinate significantly reduces blood sugar in those with type 2 diabetes, but if you don't have diabetes you may not have any particular benefits.

got a 4th gen duo hiv test done at 4weeks and 6weeks, both came negative. found some information on biotin. would my 5mg taken daily affect my results? found other forums but in lower doses. would 10mg affect? as these are doses found over the counte?

: The only HIV test with which biotin interferes is the Alere Determine®) point of care rapid test, not the lab-based AgAb (4th generation) tests. These doses might interfere with that particular test. However, biotin does not accumulate in the body and is gone from the blood within a day or two after the last dose. If you remain concerned, just skip the biotin for a few days before being tested.

: You may take these vitamins in any order or all at once. More important is the reason for your wanting to take these. If you eating a balanced diet you do not need to take any of these supplements.

Multivitamins: I don't believe that the ingredients and their dosage will be harmful to you. The benefits, according to some,  are debatable, however. Nevertheless I favor taking a multivitamin daily.

is it okay to take iron pills (65mg) ,b6 vitamin (100mg) and biotin pills (5000mcg) together? or should i alternate them? i need the iron pills and i heard b6 helps with blood circulation, wanted to add biotin because of skin and hair benefits. thx!!

Iron: Iron supplements are best taken with food to avoid stomach irritation and add a stool softener daily to prevent constipation. I recommend taking the other supplements either before or after taking iron. Be aware that iron can make stools appear black. Your pharmacist can also advise you about your medications.

Biotin: Biotin is vitamin b7, and is water-soluble.  It most often comes in "mcg" doses -- there are 1000 mcg in 1 mg.  Deficiencies are rare, as daily needs are small (around 50 mcg/day in adults) and it's abundant in food.  Long-term antiseizure meds or antibiotics, intestinal malabsorption, & eating raw egg whites can lead to biotin deficiency.  If you have one of these issues, 1mg is okay.
