Testicular torsion: Swelling may be a later finding but testicular torsion will always be painful and may have some nausea and vomiting associated with it.  If you have swelling and sudden pain in your scrotum, then you should be suspicious of torsion in someone your age and you should see your doctor ASAP.

Torsion: Yes, Get checked.  Although the swelling and pain could be something else it is important to get torsion corrected sooner than later.  Hours do make a difference with this problem.

P-A-I-N: Usually not significant swelling, just pain, and it is more than adequate to get your attention and get you in to the er for evaluation. The pain is progressive and intensifies over time. Swelling usually later sign, often after significant injury to testicle. Nausea/vomiting common due to pain intensity. May radiate up into abdomen, may have difficulty voiding. Go to er if think you are torsed.

Swelling: A degree of swelling or edema in medicalese is normal following surgery. His surgeon should be in the loop otherwise and followup as scheduled is critical in making sure he does not develop any postop complications.

if i had a partial testicular torsion yesterday and was able to fix it, how can i know if my testicle is okay? still feel mild discomfort today, but i could be imagining it in my head. i have no swelling, color change, vomiting, fever,etc. thoughts?

: You need to be examined by a urologist for two reasons: 1) to examine the testcle and 2) to get surgery to prevent it from happenng again.

See answer: Application of ice most helpful in reducing swelling the first 2-3 days after surgery. After that, application of heat, rather than cold, will usually promote healing better and faster. When applying either heat or cold, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off is generally a good rule of thumb. If no contraindications, an OTC NSAID like Ibuprofen or Naproxen may help reduce inflammation and swelling.

Yes: Testicular torsion is a medical/surgical emergency.  Torsion refers to a twisting of the testicle on its own blood supply, effectively cutting off oxygen to the testicle. It needs to diagnosed quickly and treated quickly to prevent testicular death.  It usually presents with sudden pain in the scrotum with discoloration and swelling.  Go to the emergency room if you think you have a torsion.
