will splitting my 300mg wellbutrin (bupropion) xl in half be okay or does it affect the release time? i'd like to take 150.

Time-released pills : or capsules should not be split. If you feel that your dose is too high, discuss changing to WB XR 150 mg. with your psychiatrist. Reductions in doses of psychotropic medications must be done safely, with monitoring for symptom recurrence. I assume you took SSRI's in the past, not simultaneously with each other or with WB, as the risk of serotonin syndrome would be increased.

Wellbutrin (bupropion): U can take it twice a day in the mmorning and the second dose before 4 pm. Since wellbutrin (bupropion) if taken  late can interfere with sleep.

Talk to your doctor : Wellbutrin (bupropion) is a very good antidepressant medication.  It can take 2-4 weeks to work. Talk to your doctor about your specific situation. You may need an increase in dose. This has an increased risk of seizure so be sure to discuss with your doctor. Also, other meds such as an SSRI can be added to Wellbutrin (bupropion) to help. Yes wellbutrin (bupropion) dose: Wellbutrin (bupropion) comes in 3 forms: immediate release (IR), 12hour release (SR) and 24 hour (XL).  There is a small risk of seizure if blood levels rise too high so guidelines suggest that IR doses shouldn't exceed 150mg spaced 6-8 hours apart;  SR can be up to 200mg spaced 6-8 hours apart;  XL can take 450mg once daily.  Total daily doses above 450mg are generally not recommended.
