roots been left in after tooth extraction. can this lead to infection, i have a red line goin across my gum and painful sornes on side of palate?

Accepted Answer

It is possible: It is possible to get an infection however if the root tips are too close to a nerve or the sinus it is sometimes better to leave them in rather than to risk some possible permanent nerve  damage or a sinus perforation. I would return to the dentist that did the extraction and have the area rechecked.

had tooth extraction and the socket has like a whitest plug in the middle of it kinda over the blood clot. is just the gum healing or is it infection?

Maybe just food part: Plaque can form in a short period of time.  Don't rinse or gargle if you are in the first 24 hours.  Dislodging the blood clot can lead to a dry socket which is extremely painful an doesn't show up immediately after the clot is lost but rather 2 to 7 days later.  After 24 hrs it is safe to return to normal activities.

Tooth extraction: Hi Robin, When was the extraction? For about 4-6 days it is normal to have the swelling depending on how bad it was before the extraction. It will feel swollen, bruised and cause spasms of the masseter muscle prevention mouth opening. Pain accompanies inflammation that is secondary to the extraction and possibly the infection that required it. Please see your dentist if this persists beyond 6 days

Talk to your doctor: Monitoring the course of an infection requires talking and exam by your doctor, and can't reasonably be done here. If you are still having fever, or if you develop skin lesions, this may be a sign of endocarditis and you should seek medical attention immediately.

Post op pain: It could be a dry socket or you may just be dealing with some aggressive post operative pain associated with the difficult extraction. Difficult teeth tend to require the removal of bone and require more healing time than erupted teeth. If its been over a week and there's still pain or more pain, contact your dental surgeon.

Unlikely: inhaled steroids might cause fungal pharyngitis in general, that's why it is advisable to gargle or drink water after using them, the same applies after tooth extraction, wash your mouth after usage, bronchodilator inhalers aren't known to cause infection , wash your mouth anyways after using either type if you're concerned

Many ways: Be certain there well-nourished and in stable health before the procedure. Informed the surgeon of all medications being taken orally.  After surgery keep the diet liquid or one that can be swallowed without chewing for five days.  No smoking.  Lightly brush and thoroughly rinse surgery area with a disinfectant.  Follow all instructions of the surgeon.  Add probiotic bacteria  like kefir yogurt.

Antibiotics will: There is no need to be unduly concerned about the spread of infection.  If you had an infection, your dentist should have given you a prescription for antibiotics which should prevent the spread of any infection.  Take the antibiotics as prescribed and follow all your dentist's instructions and be sure to be seen for a follow-up visit.  If you have any questions or concerns, call your dentist.
