coughing up blood, 38y old female, swollen tonsil on one side for a while.  could it be related?  or should i rush to er?

Possible tonsillitis: If your tonsil has been inflamed and painful for some time, it may be the cause of your productive cough with blood. If it is not painful, you should seek further evaluation with your primary care physician and then an Ear, Nose &amp; Throat physician for a possible endoscopy and detailed examination of your throat as a possible site of this bleeding followed by a pulmonary evaluation.

i've had swollen tonsils on one side for a few months now. no white spots and no other throat related symptoms. what could this be?

Swollen tonsil: Sometimes  asymmetry of the tonsils(tonsillar pillars), position and muscle tone. 80%of the time it is benign but 20% of  the time there could be malignancy which is not known until they examine the tissue after tonsillectomy. Any lymph nodes in the neck? F/U within 2 weeks with ENT. Ask if  MRI would be of any help in distinguishing between non malignant and malignant cases,

Needs evaluation: Anytime there is asymmetric tonsillar hypertrophy this should be evaluated by an otolaryngologist.  Most likely this is a normal variant, however may indicate a neoplasm within the tonsil.

See ENT MD: Get yourself to the specialist -- ENT MD - for thorough evaluation. 9 Months is way too long to ignore this type of presentation. May simply be chronic infected tonsil -- but this would be accompanied by pain. The lack of pain and duration of the swelling and extension to the glands is of concern. Make appt. and get going . Good Luck.

posterior pillar of the palatine tonsil swollen one side? what causes this.. its been like that for a while.. theres no pain or anything like that every now and then i get a sharp pain on that side thought.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Unilateral lesions are more of a concern.  It would be prudent to see your doctor, preferably an ENT doctor.

Yes: That can happen. But, if the pain is severe, you have fever and you cannot open your jaw very far then you need to be reevaluated.
