my upper gums and teeth are bleeding since one year and dr says it is normal my gums are sensitive and i am developing permanent swollen lymph nodes under my jaw that is movable. is this bleeding cause those swollen nodes?

: Bleeding gingiva = inflammation. Over the long run, inflammation can result in periodontal disease and loss of teeth. It may be wise to see a periodontist (gum specialist) in your area for a second opinion.

Accepted Answer

No: massage cant result in production of lymph nodes which are essentially found along major venous structures in the groin, para aortic region, axilla and cervical region.  Only an inflammatory or neoplastic process can spread to  and involve nodes. If no tumor present, nodes in general are inflammatory Bad massage can injure underlying tissue.

Inflammation/ infect: Sites of infection and inflammation are drained by lymphatic vessels. These in turn empty or go through nodes which can then become inflammed.

Lymph nodes: These "glands " are lymph nodes they are part of the lymphatic system they part a part in fighting off infection.Each section of the body has a series of lymph glands . They enlarge if they are fighting off an infection in an area. They can become enlarged with certain viral infections. On a more ominous node if they are become enlarged due to metastatic cancer or a primary lymphoma.See a doc!

Lesions before nodes: In initial herpes, inlfamed lymph nodes almost always follow the blisters/sores, not before. Otherwise, I don't understand the sequence. Swollen nodes appeared a week after lesions, but 3 days after sex? If so, I hope sex was with the partner from whom you acquired herpes, not a new partner! I also hope you're under medical care and on treatment with acyclovir or valacyclovir. Good luck!

How to tell: Malignant lymph nodes are usually non-tender, may be of any consistency but are usually firmer than other nodes, often stick to surrounding structures, and are simply not normal-feeling. At your age, having cancer announce itself as a node that's not obviously very abnormal is very unlikely.

Primary care: Start with your primary care provider. It may as simple as an infection in the foot or leg on that side. The primary care provide can then determine if referral to a specialist is needed.

See below : Depends on reason for enlargement of lymph node and location. If it is an infectious nodes then treat infection . If it is suspicious for lymphoma (less likely) then a biopsy is needed. Then according to the type of lymphoma we usually recommend monitoring for less aggressive ones and chemo for more aggressive lymphomas. In either way you need to see a doctor for this.

Depends: When assessing for lymphadenopathy, the nodes may be  evident on one side only if the condition causing their enlargement is on that side.

2 weeks ago i had slightly swollen nodes on my neck with no other symptoms. this worried me, as i'm a hypochondriac. the next week, i was 100%. now my neck is stiff again and the nodes are back. cold?

Not due to cold: Swollen nodes in the neck are likely due to an underlying infectious cause like a virus, they can come and go. There are lots of other less common reasons and i think that you should see your primary care doc to make sure it's nothing important. Your doctor would probably get some blood tests of he/she is concerned. Hope you feel better soon !
