Maybe.: It could be mono, but if a negative rapid strep was not followed up by a definitive throat culture for strep, you may have persistent strep this not responding to the antibiotics you were prescribed.  Get checked again, and possibly get a strep culture and a monospot test and/or whatever else the doc recommends.

what can i do to treat swollen, red, painful hard palate that's been hurting for over a week? should i avoid food? can i put calendula ointment on it?

Trauma: Sometimes  crusty bread or another hard sharp food can cause this.  Traumatic cuts or ulcers are common in this area. Try over the counter kanka to coat and soothe. After 7-10 date if things don't improve, see your dentist!

Thanks for asking!: Any swelling of the palate requires checking by the doctor treating your mouth. There are many possibilities for the swelling and you need to have them find the cause. It can be simple or serious. Get it evaluated.

Could be viral infec: Mouth lining(roof and throat/tongue) are prone to viral infections(sometimes called Canker sores). They often produce shallow ulcers which take 2-3 weeks to heal spontaneously. Usually there is no treatment required.
So give it another 7-10 days. if it does not settle down then you need to go see your doctor for a medical check up. You may need antibiotics.

what shoud i do ?

If that is all: If that is all you did then keep it clean with some salt water rinses and it should resolve.  If  it is very sore then get some anesthetic/antiseptic rinse otc and use that.  If it gets worse or does not resolve in a few days, see a dentist for evaluation.

No idea?: This is not a common complaint.  Why are you not eating for 12-24 hours?  Allergic reaction? This would need to be seen by a dentist for a proper diagnosis. Have him\her look at it when your palate is sore and swollen as described.  You also might want to re-evaluate your eating habits and how this affects your general health. When was your last medical checkup?

Many possibilities: Can be from burn, chemical irritation, systemic disease, abrasions, and many other reasons.  You need to be examined to be diagnosed and then treated.  You must see your Dentist.  Referral to Oral Surgeon may be indicated.
