My hard palate is swollen and sore. what could this be caused by?

Could be viral infec: Mouth lining(roof and throat/tongue) are prone to viral infections(sometimes called Canker sores). They often produce shallow ulcers which take 2-3 weeks to heal spontaneously. Usually there is no treatment required. So give it another 7-10 days. if it does not settle down then you need to go see your doctor for a medical check up. You may need antibiotics.
