i'm currently taking escitalopram 20 mg daily, but i believe my depressive symptomps had worsened in the last months. i used to take duloxetine but my last psychiatrist decided against it because i was experiencing too many side effects.

Let your doctor know: that your symptoms have worsened.  Don't rely on medications alone to cure your depression. Psychotherapy is very important. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be especially effective.

It is complex: Usually it should not have serotonin toxicity. Cymbalta (duloxetine) 40mg is not a high dose and Lexapro 20mg is a normal dose too. You took them one after another, should not cause difficulties, they are metabolized from your body. Your choice.: When choosing whether your want generic or brand, it is a choice you can make with your doctor.  If you see a difference in efficiency, when informing your doctor he could prescribe brand, or generic only, depending on which one works better for you.  Insurance might increase the amount you pay for brand versus generic.

You an take it up: To 15 mg first (1+ 1/2 of the 10mg tabs) for a week before taking it up to 20 mg. This will lessen your chance of getting any further symptoms, but generally, once you are fine at 10 mg there are no further troubles taking it up to 20 mg a day. Best wishes.

Different levels: Generics can result in a different blood level for many reasons. It is fine to stay on the generics with the dosage adjusted as needed, or go back and pay far more for the brand name. The first option is usually adequate. I don't expect that this is very common. I have 800 patients, with probably 50 or 75 on Lexapro (escitalopram) and I have only once had to make a dosage adjustment for a generic.

a day for a week.is this ok? i feel faint/bad !

Cymbalta (duloxetine): Usual switch is tapering one antidepressant while starting the other at low dose. Discuss with your doctor the symptoms u r having & the Lexapro (escitalopram) dose u r on.

when switching from celexa to lexapro (escitalopram), (escitalopram) will the lexapro (escitalopram) still need to build up in my system before it starts to work or will it work almost right away?

It depends.: If you have already been on Celexa for several weeks, and your symptoms partially resolved or stabilized, then you will likely not have to wait a long time for  Lexapro (escitalopram) to start working, as Celexa has already had time to start modulating the serotonin system in your brain. However, if you only took Celexa for a few days, then you will have to wait a full 2-4 wks to notice an effect.
