This results in the increased size of lymph nodes where the activated cells of the immune system is battling it out with the infection. These lymph nodes will be noted when they are close to the surface of the body, like in the area of the armpits

Hidradinitis: The most common form of armpit swelling comes from lympn gland involvement either from an infection of nodes or metastasis from chest or arm primaries.
Another cause is hidradenitis where sweat glands in the armpit get secondarily infected and can produce marked swelling .  Here antibiotic therapy is employed.

Breast disease: Let's hope it is an infection in your arm or your breast. Breast cancer can spread to the lymph nodes in your armpit and cause swelling. A swollen lymph node there should not be ignored. It requires prompt, competent medical evaluation.

Likely a leak...: The needle most likely went through the vein, not just into it, and blood started leaking out the back side of the vein. It is uncomfortable and makes a bruise, but is usually not serious. Will most often go away with warm compresses and elevation after a few days.

Bite Reaction?: Perhaps it is just trauma, but if it continues to get worse after ice and elevation for 48 hours, I would consider going to urgent care. Typically infections will have warmth, but insect or spider bites can lead to swelling. Also taking an antihistamine like Zyrtec (cetirizine) can help.

Lymphedema: The arm swelling you are describing occurs secondary to disruption of the lymphatic circulation draining the arm, either via lymph node removal and/or radiation therapy.  When we used to remove 10-20 lymph nodes, the lifetime incidence was ~25%.  Nowadays, with sentinel lymph node biopsy alone, the risk is closer to 5%.  Hopefully, in the future we won't have to remove any lymph nodes.

Lymph nodes: Doing breast cancer surgery the lymph nodes are removed.  This causes the lymphatic fluid to back up in the arm.

Very serious: This is very serious and something that should be seen and evaluated by a breast surgeon immediately. It could be an abscess or it could be a cancer but it definitely does not need to be ignored or observed any longer.

Numbness : Numbness and tingling of the extremities are typically seen in peripheral neuropathies. Swelling is a typical symptoms of inflammation.  Any history of trauma or rheumatic disease? For a better orientation you need to provide more details!
i think the best option at this point is to go talk to your pcp or your family physician.
