Swollen lymph nodes: A systemic infection will cause your immune system to go onto overdrive. This results in the increased size of lymph nodes where the activated cells of the immune system is battling it out with the infection. These lymph nodes will be noted when they are close to the surface of the body, like in the area of the armpits
