Edema in pregnancy: Following your last question, if your swelling is not acute in onset it may just be a normal process in pregnancy, there are a few things you can do to reduce it: avoid caffeine, limit salt intake, rest with your legs elevated, use support stockings, avoid being outdoors when it's hot, consume potassium containing foods like banana and orange. Pregnancy/Oily Skin: If you have a problem with acne already, your acne may become more irritated during pregnancy. The extra hormones in your body cause your oil glands to secrete more oil, which can cause breakouts.

Accepted Answer

Several things: Exercise helps maintain muscle tone which can help with swollen feet.  Avoid excess salt intake.  You can wear stockings.  Swimming is one of the best ways to deal with swelling.

See your OB: Swelling of feet and hands can be normal or a sign of preeclampsia or eclampsia, please see your OB to check your urine for the presence of protein and to check and monitor your blood pressure.

Pregnant now?: If you aren't pregnant, just note if the swelling is gone in the morning but recurs by afternoon/evening, especially if you are on your feet all day.  Also, check your blood pressure frequently.  If still a problem after a few days, see your doctor.
Same applies if pregnant, just make sure you get to your doctor soon, and check blood pressure twice daily.  If &gt;140/90, see your doctor immediately.

Peripheral edema: Swelling of the extremities could be caused by many things. If you feel it is not an allergic reaction, an md consult is warranted. Perhaps your kidneys are not functioning properly, a common source of peripheral (and other ) edema: swelling. Any changes in medications? The internet is really unsuited to diagnosis of such symptoms, don't fool around; see an md. Good luck!

Very unusual: I would make sure to check your blood pressure first. It sounds as if you are having some vascular like symptoms that are difficult to attribute to any one source without additional information.

Multiple causes: Hi, there are multiple reasons of swelling of body, most common one congestive heart failure, you are too young to be diagnosed with congestive heart failure, but to begin with a BNP, some basic labs specially kidney function would help.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Your symptoms are suggestive of liver disease. It would be prudent to see a doctor.

can ms contin (morphine) cause fluid retention, swelling & pain in my feet? and i now have swelling in knees, hands & face. hospital tests were normal.

Not that I know of: I have had many patients on ms contin but have no seen this swelling with it. If you are on actos, (pioglitazone) amlodipine, diltiazem, verapamil, nifedipine, prazosin, terazosin, or minoxidil, you can develop a swelling like this. Make sure  urine has no protein and uric acid normal. You mention blood tests are normal. If liver and kidney functions are normal, your next step is to have an ultrasound on heart.
