MIRTAZAPINE: Yes it may cause peripheral edema. It is an antidepressant but has some other uses in psychiatry.

Not sure : It's difficult to say it's the Remeron that's causing your lip to swell or be red. Since you don't know, it's always safe to stop the Remeron and maybe take a Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (if you are not allergic to this), until you have a chance to talk to your doctor. If you're throat swells and you cannot breath, this may be an anaphylactic rx and its a medical emergency. Call 911!

Yes: It is certainly normal to gain weight on Mirtazapine , and many people hope to lose it again after they come off it. Mirtazapine strongly stimulates appetite in many patients, so it is often helpful in treating elderly depressed patients who are losing too much weight. Talk to your doctor if your weight loss is a problem.

No, it doesn't sound: Abnormal. I have known a number of patients that gained weight on remeron (mirtazapine).

No: If anything it will cause weight gain. The interesting  thing is that the lower the dose there tends to be more weight gain than on higher doses . It works opposite the way you would think.

Depends : Recommend slow reductions over 1-2 weeks if been on &lt; 2 months and perhaps even slower withdrawal over 6-8 weeks if you've been on it longer.  You may wish to have further discussion with your gp in consultation with mental health re best way to switch

Why now?: If your insomnia has been better over the past year, I would wonder why you are waking up right now.  Speak with your therapist about anything that may be on your mind or any changes in your life which may be creating stress.

: Mirtazapine definitely causes drowsiness and it should be taken at night. If you take it at night, the drowsiness is typically gone by morning. The dose you are on is a low dose. If after taking it at night you are still experiencing daytime drowsiness, let your doctor know. It does cause more drowsiness than Lexapro. Good luck to you!
