Pain after surgery: It is usually normal to have pain after a surgical procedure but if the pain is severe and associated with other type of abdominal issues you should be checked immediately in order to rule out post surgical infections or complications.

hello.
i am 26 days post a laparoscopic appendectomy procedure; is it normal to have pain on both sides of the belly? when i press the areas, they feel hard. my belly button area also has pain and feels hard as well. is this just normal swelling?

Not normal: I assume you're not experiencing bowel problems, I consider those signs and symptoms concerning enough to consult the surgeon who performed your procedure and I'm sure that he/she will want to evaluate you. The firmness and discomfort should resolve in a week. Concern would be for postop bleeding causing breakdown products to accumulate. Associated redness would mean infection usually.

Unusual: to have swelling of feet on 28 yr old female after routine appendectomy , call your doctor go for follow up visit and evaluation to make sure you don't have deep vein thrombosis.

Good place: To start would be your surgeon who performed your operation.  It is possible that you have another condition, such as ovarian cyst, pelvic infection, crohn's ileitis, cecal diverticulitis, kidney stones, etc.  Your surgeon will help you figure it out for you.

See your doctor: You had an appendix removed for pain.  You have diarrhea for 3 months following appendix removal.  You should talk to your doctor and surgeon.  You may have diarrhea from the antibiotics you received.  You may need treatment.  Your doctor will want to see you.  This can be treated.

i went from 125 pounds to 113 in a week due to my lap. appendectomy. how do i gain all my weight back so i'm not severely unhealthy ? i'm 5'11 .

Patience: Physicians are always surprised by this question. There is nothing wrong with you. And one would never ever want to force or add burden to a healing body.  Time and returning to normal is how this will happen, please be patient with your body. Take care of yourself.  Do not eat unhealthily just to feel that you are making a normal process go faster.
