last night i received a lot of pain in my left arm, center chest, abdomen along with sweating and high blood pressure. according to er personnel it is only muscle pains. ecg, sugar, urine tests were normal. blood pressure was 169 / 89. any ideas?

Follow up : Would follow up for further testing.  Does not sound like just “muscle pains.”  More sensitive tezting to rule out cardiac cause such as potentially a cardiac stress test and to look for other sources likely indicated.

She : She needs to be examined immediately by a doctor if she is having ringing in her ears, dizziness, diaphoresis (sweating), and almost passing out and has a history of high blood pressure.  She needs to be examined immediately as she is pregnant.  She should not drive herself.  Please have her evaluated immediately by a doctor.

Yes, but uncommonly.: More commonly, the symptoms of high blood pressure (if they occur) include blurry vision, headaches, blood in the urine (urine discoloration), chest discomfort / pressure, throbbing / pounding in the ears. If you have an aneurysm, back pain or other neurologic symptoms may develop. The symptoms may be subtle. The best detection is a blood pressure monitor that you can pick up at any pharmacy.

Urgent assessment: The number one thing to exclude here is heart attack or other serious heart rhythm problem with an urgent electrocardiogram (heart tracing).  Other possibilities include thyroid problem or serious infection.

Needs urgent assessment in the nearest emergency centre to rapidly assess for and exclude potentially serious causes.  All the best.

Not "cause": In reality we do not KNOW the true cause of high blood pressure. We do know many things that will drive it up in a predisposed individual. Considering about 30% of population has HTN, it is fairly common. Smoking and/or any act that stresses the body or mind can drive BP up in someone wo already has HTN or is genetically "ripe" to develop  HTN
