This is up to you.: Much of body image is how you feel about yourself.  Everybody wants to look their best, but after a point, it is how you feel about yourself that is probably the main factor.  If you can feel good with what you have done to improve your body image, then that is enough.  Options like support groups can help by seeing other people who are dealing with the same issues you are and how to handle them.

can you tell me about rectal bowel cancer surgery and been left with pain because of nerve damage?

Possible n. damage: Pelvic pain following colorectal cancer is not common because a careful dissection preserves the nerves that are dissected adjacent to the blood vessels associated with lymph node dissection.  The ilio hypogastric nerve and ilio inguinal nerves are the two most common nerves dissected and for which preservation attempted but which may be damaged  causing pain.

does radiation after breast cancer surgery hurt? and what does it do to the body?

Not really: The major side-effect of radiation to the breast is development of skin irritation (somewhat like a sunburn) the radiation itself causes no discomfort (like getting a chest xray). The radiation only affects the area irradiated so there are no effects outside of the radiation field.

cut left forearm 7 weeks ago; healed like a big dome. had biopsy squamous cell. dome grew fast; it is normal? is this a common cancer? surgery scheduled. can it spread from the forearm to other areas? it is easily treatable?  thank you

Squamous: Squamous cell cancers, unlike basal cell skin cancers, grow fast and deep. They generally don't metastasize but spread only locally. They usually are resected quite effectively.

: If you are reporting soreness on the left side of your head/neck, you should also be seeing your Dentist or a specialist Oral Pathologist.

Painful lipoma: Some lipomas have sensation associated with them. Others develop over time. Cancer is #37 in our differential, so...really no. As this is a recent development, a visit to your dermatologist for evaluation and a possible ultrasound would be warranted. These are very easy to remove through a small excision in an outpatient setting. Ask about removal.

Diet: Place a call to a dietician at the hospital, explain that you've had liver cancer surgery, inform her of your current height and weight, your weight when you were healthy, current activity status and you'll be told your ideal weight, receive nutritious  dietary instructions, recommended daily calorie intake and get a sample diet

Surgery: Colon cancer surgery would be done under full general anesthesia. Open or laparoscopic surgery can be 2 options. The offending part of the colon and nearby lymph nodes are removed. Most often the colon is then connected back together. Less often a colostomy is needed. Discuss with the operating surgeon to get more specific details.

what are the chances of surviving colorectal cancer surgery at 85?

It depends.: This depends on how extensive the surgery is and your state of health.  If the disease is found to be minimally invasive and the surgery is minor, you should be all-right.  If, however, the surgery is extensive, it could be hard for anyone.  Similarly, if you are healthy, you can tolerate even major surgery, but if you're anemic and malnourished like many colorectal cancer patients, it can be hard.

is brain cancer surgery a routine operation for neurosurgeons?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes but this depends very much on the location of the tumor. Some tumors can be adjacent to or involve parts of the brain with critical function; these cases can be more challenging.
