is it possible that an epidural steroid injection can go not deep enough and instead inject the subdural space?

Accepted Answer

Technically no.: The epidural space is closer to the skin so,  if you do not go deep enough,  you will be outside of the spinal canal. 

The subdural space is deeper to the skin, so by not going deeper,  you will not go into the subdural space.

What can happen, however, is the needle does go too deep into the subdural space causing potential nerve irritation, and injection of steroids into the spinal sac.

See neurologist : If the problem is acute, please go to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible.  You need to be evaluated by the neurologist.

Leg problem: This problem is most likely neurological and related to your husband's back (disk) issue.  I assume you have discussed this with the surgeon.  If not, do so asap.  Nerve injury is certainly a concern.

Yes: The simple answer to your question is that you can certainly inject Normal Saline into the epidural space and this can dilute out an anesthetic or an attempt can be made to then aspirate the solution.  The reason it is not done is that the effects of the anesthetics causing muscle weakness are very temporary and so it is much safer to just let them wear off than to try to remove them.  Thankyou.

Broken Spacer: Don't worry, these spacers get stretched and get brake easily. Call your orthodontist in the morning and they can easily put a new one in.

Wisdom teeth: Are the teeth that need extraction your wisdom teeth?  It is common to finish your orthodontic treatment and then wisdom tooth extraction.
Discuss this with your orthodontist or an oral surgeon to optimize the  timing f your treatment.

Yes: It is important to have all of your needed dental work, fillings, treated before you start the  braces.  Once braces are on it is much more difficult to treat decay.

one of my spacers fell out. it was to make room for expander, i've had it in for 12 days, will it make a difference?

Accepted Answer

It could: The "spacer" is creating or holding a space that is needed for your expander appliance.  If the spacer is lost,  and the  space closes again, this may affect or even prevent the fit of your appliance.  If it is out for hours, or a day or two prior to your next appointment, probably not problem....But call your dentist or orthodontist and let them know.  They will give you guidance.
