It could: The "spacer" is creating or holding a space that is needed for your expander appliance. If the spacer is lost, and the space closes again, this may affect or even prevent the fit of your appliance. If it is out for hours, or a day or two prior to your next appointment, probably not problem....But call your dentist or orthodontist and let them know. They will give you guidance.

Orthodontics: If you have had the spacer in for 12 days you should be fine. If you put the spacer in and it keeps falling out then the spacer is working as it has created a space which your doctor wants. Hopefully you are placing it in properly.Either way, call your orthodontist to let them know.

Probably not: Shouldn't make any difference at all if you will have the bands fit within a few days. If it fell out, it just means enough space was made.
